Saber Interactive has “no real development in North America any more”

Saber Interactive has shifted all game development outside North America, according to Chief Creative Officer Tim Willits. While the company maintains its U.S. headquarters and publishing operations, actual game development now occurs across 15 studios in Serbia, Armenia, Georgia, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Argentina, and Australia.

The move represents a significant restructuring following Saber Interactive’s independence from Embracer in 2024. The company previously owned several North American studios including Aspyr (Texas), Demiurge Studios (Boston), Tripwire Interactive (Georgia), and Shiver Entertainment (Florida), which are no longer part of the organization.

Willits defended the global strategy, arguing that geographic location is irrelevant to talent quality. “You don’t need to be in California to be a brilliant programmer or artist or animator,” he stated, adding that the company is unafraid to operate in unfamiliar territories. The approach prioritizes finding talented developers worldwide and providing them with resources, rather than concentrating operations in traditional gaming hubs.

This strategy reflects a broader industry trend toward distributed development teams and challenges assumptions about where quality game development must occur.
