Supergirl Lands Official Streaming Date on HBO Max

DC Studios and Warner Bros.’ Supergirl is now available to stream on HBO Max as of September 10, marking the film’s transition from theatrical release to the subscription platform. The movie, starring Milly Alcock as the titular hero Kara Zor-El, serves as the second installment in James Gunn’s DC cinematic universe.

Despite featuring Alcock in the lead role and drawing from well-regarded source material, Supergirl struggled to achieve commercial success during its theatrical run, earning $126 million at the global box office. The film follows Kara as she pursues the villainous Krem of the Yellow Hill after he poisons Krypto, setting up the central conflict of the narrative.

The HBO Max release reflects a common industry strategy of repurposing underperforming theatrical releases through streaming platforms, allowing broader audiences to access the content outside traditional cinema. This move extends the film’s lifespan and provides Warner Bros. with additional monetization opportunities across its streaming ecosystem.
