Warcraft Getting Its First New RTS Campaign In Two Decades–And It’s Playable Today
Blizzard announced and released a new campaign for Warcraft 3 called Forsaken Kingdom at BlizzCon 2026, marking the real-time strategy game’s first new campaign in over 23 years. The last campaign was the Frozen Throne expansion released in 2003. The two-part campaign is available today for Warcraft 3: Reforged, Blizzard’s 2020 remaster of the 2002 RTS classic.
Forsaken Kingdom focuses on the lore and origins of the Forsaken faction and the Undercity in World of Warcraft. The campaign includes a prologue centered on Arthas, the primary antagonist from World of Warcraft’s Wrath of the Lich King expansion, and the main campaign follows Sylvanas’ early days fighting the Scarlet Crusade and the founding of the Undercity, as well as the rise of Naxxramas. The expansion offers over 30 hours of new gameplay content and introduces a new hero unit: the Forsaken Paladin. The campaign narrative will set the stage for World of Warcraft Forever.
While the Forsaken Kingdom campaign is a paid DLC, Blizzard is also releasing a free 3.0 update for Warcraft 3: Reforged that includes new visual improvements, a definitive graphics mode, World Editor enhancements, and quality-of-life updates. The surprise announcement highlights renewed interest in Warcraft 3 and demonstrates Blizzard’s commitment to expanding storytelling within the Warcraft universe beyond World of Warcraft and Hearthstone.
