Apple is reportedly working on iPhone game controllers

Apple is reportedly developing two game controllers designed specifically for iPhones, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman. The controllers would likely be marketed under Apple’s Beats brand, the company’s audio accessories subsidiary.

The reports come after MacRumors discovered references to two first-party game controller devices in the code of macOS 26.7. Despite the references appearing in macOS rather than iOS, Gurman clarifies that the controllers are intended for iPhone use.

The project is reportedly being led by Beats executives, a strategic choice that aligns with Apple’s history of using the subsidiary brand to enter new product categories and compete at lower price points without impacting the flagship Apple brand positioning.

While rumors about Apple entering the game controller market have circulated for some time, this latest evidence from both code discoveries and industry reporting suggests the company may be moving toward an official announcement. Game controllers would complement the gaming capabilities already present in modern iPhones, potentially expanding Apple’s ecosystem and creating new revenue opportunities in the gaming accessories market.
