75 Years Later, Disney’s Bonkers Fantasy Masterpiece Officially Gets a New Sequel

Disney is releasing a new sequel to its classic 1951 animated adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland to celebrate the film’s 75th anniversary. The original film follows Alice as she falls down a rabbit hole into a fantastical world filled with peculiar characters and strange logic, ultimately revealed to be a dream when she wakes up and returns home.

The upcoming sequel, titled Wondrous, is written by author Heather Fawcett, known for Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries. Set in 19th century London, the story picks up years after the events of the original film. In this continuation, Alice faces pressure from her parents to marry a Baron in order to protect their estate. However, Alice has different aspirations—she dreams of opening her own traveling magic tea shop. Her desires ultimately lead her to return to Wonderland, the mysterious realm from her childhood adventure.
