PlayStation allegedly had “concerns over budget, potential profitability, and exclusivity” over Kojima Productions’ Physint

PlayStation has ended its involvement with Kojima Productions’ upcoming Physint project, citing concerns over escalating budget, uncertain profitability, and exclusivity arrangements. According to Bloomberg sources familiar with the matter, the espionage thriller had encountered significant production challenges including missed deadlines and substantial budget overruns. Despite being years away from completion, the project was already tracking well over its allocated budget.

The decision reflects prior disappointment with Kojima Productions’ commercial performance. Death Stranding and its sequel, Death Stranding: On the Beach, failed to meet PlayStation’s revenue expectations, making the publisher reluctant to commit additional resources to the studio’s latest venture.

Physint was announced in 2024 and had been positioned as a PlayStation exclusive. The cancellation represents a significant setback for Kojima Productions and highlights ongoing tensions between major publishers and independent studios over financial accountability and project management. The game’s future now remains uncertain.
