Moss developer Polyarc has shut down

Polyarc Games, a Seattle-based VR specialist developer, has announced its closure after nearly 12 years of operation. The studio, best known for creating the Moss franchise, confirmed the news through a LinkedIn post, stating it would “wind down active development.” According to a reverse recruiting tracker shared by the studio, approximately 30 employees have been affected by the shutdown.

This closure follows an earlier downsizing in March 2026, when Polyarc substantially reduced its workforce due to financing challenges, indicating financial difficulties had been mounting for some time before the complete shutdown decision. The Moss franchise was instrumental to Polyarc’s identity and success—the series originally launched as a VR-exclusive title before being reimagined for traditional gaming platforms, demonstrating the studio’s ability to adapt its flagship property across different gaming ecosystems.

In its closure announcement, Polyarc expressed gratitude to its team and players, emphasizing that working together had been “an honour” and that providing “surprise and delight” to players had been “a privilege.” To support affected employees, the studio shared a recruiting spreadsheet to help displaced staff find new employment opportunities. The closure represents a notable setback for the VR gaming industry, which has experienced significant consolidation and contraction in recent years.
