Sega and Netflix partner for a “cute yet cool” Sonic TV Show, a Crazy Taxi film, and a “badass action” Stranger Than Heaven adaptation

Netflix and Sega have announced a multi-project partnership to create video game adaptations spanning television and film. The deal includes three major projects across different genres.

The first is a live-action comedy film adaptation of Crazy Taxi, scheduled for 2027 release. The screenplay is written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, who previously penned the 2025 Naked Gun reboot. The film will be produced by Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, and Toru Nakahara, bringing production experience from the Sonic franchise. The Crazy Taxi project aligns with an upcoming new Crazy Taxi video game revival.

The partnership also includes a new animated Sonic series targeting upper pre-school audiences, described as “cute yet cool” with an edge appeal. The series is being developed by Carlos Stevens (known for Love, Death & Robots and The Alchemist’s Letter) alongside Toru Nakahara. This complements Netflix’s existing Sonic Prime animated series, which has completed three seasons.

The third adaptation is a live-action crime film based on Stranger Than Heaven, an upcoming title from RGG Studio (Yakuza developer). No release timeline has been announced for this project.

The multi-franchise collaboration represents Netflix’s continued expansion into video game adaptations, following successful projects like Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which drove increased sales for the associated games.
