007 First Light catches a big delay on Switch 2, pushing it into next year
007 First Light, the James Bond game from IO Interactive, has been delayed on Nintendo Switch 2 to March 2027. The game released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in May, but the Switch 2 edition has been postponed twice—from its original May target to later in 2026, and now to Q1 2027.
IO Interactive announced the latest delay to provide additional time for optimizing performance and polishing the game for Switch 2. The developer acknowledged player enthusiasm for Bond’s reimagined origin story on Nintendo’s hybrid console and said it would share the exact March 2027 release date closer to launch.
The delay reflects challenges in porting demanding AAA titles to Switch 2, which prioritizes portability over processing power compared to other current-generation systems. Games frequently require extended development time on Switch 2 to maintain performance standards and meet player expectations.
Despite the delays, positive reception at Gamescom and an upcoming Tokyo Game Show demonstration suggest the optimized version could deliver the experience players want. The postponement adds to other recent delays affecting Switch 2’s game library as developers work to balance the platform’s unique capabilities with its technical limitations.
