As Civilization 7 devs Firaxis prepare to unleash the nukes, the strategy game’s latest update whips out a fresh take on the classic Real Earth map
Civilization 7 received its September 1.5.0 update on September 15th, introducing new maps and gameplay refinements to Firaxis’ turn-based strategy title. The flagship addition is a fresh redesign of the True Start Location Earth map, a classic feature that recreates real-world civilizations’ starting positions in their historical geographic contexts. This updated version allows players to pursue alternate history scenarios with greater historical authenticity and roleplay potential. Senior game designer Taymoor Rehman led the map’s design overhaul. Beyond cartographic updates, patch 1.5.0 addresses a notable gameplay concern through improved diplomatic mechanics. Previously, players could be automatically drawn into conflicts their allied civilizations initiated. The new update grants players greater agency by preventing automatic involvement in allies’ wars, enabling more nuanced alliance management and strategic decision-making throughout a campaign. These changes target both immersion and strategic depth, particularly appealing to players interested in historical accuracy or pursuing specific diplomatic strategies.
