Roblox will allow devs to release games as standalone apps on other stores

Roblox is expanding its distribution strategy by allowing developers to publish their games as standalone applications on external platforms including Steam, the Apple App Store, and Google Play. This announcement was made at the Roblox Developers Conference, an annual event where creators gather to learn about major platform updates. The policy enables makers of popular Roblox titles such as Welcome to Bloxburg, Steal an Egg, and Scream and Run to explore publishing beyond the Roblox ecosystem.

The move could reshape how Roblox games reach audiences, but key questions remain about financial implications. Currently, Roblox retains between 10 and 70 percent of in-game transaction revenues depending on transaction type. Developers will seek clarity on how revenue sharing will work for games published independently on other platforms—a critical detail the company has not yet fully disclosed.

This initiative reflects a broader shift in how game platforms are evolving, as developers increasingly seek more control over distribution and monetization of their titles. By permitting standalone publishing, Roblox may be responding to developer demands for greater autonomy while maintaining the appeal of its platform for new game creators.
