Sega and Netflix announce partnership to develop Crazy Taxi, Sonic, and Stranger Than Heaven adaptations
Sega and Netflix have announced a multi-title partnership to develop adaptations of three major gaming franchises: Crazy Taxi, Sonic, and Stranger Than Heaven.
The Crazy Taxi film adaptation will be written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, screenwriters behind the recent Naked Gun reboot, and produced by Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, and Toru Nakahara—producers who have worked on the Sonic theatrical films. Stranger Than Heaven will be adapted as a live-action crime film, also produced by Nakahara.
Beyond film projects, the partnership will develop a new Sonic animated series targeted at upper pre-school audiences. Sega’s president and COO emphasized that “the fandoms of these games deserve storytelling that honours what makes each title special,” noting Netflix’s aligned commitment to preserving franchise integrity. This partnership continues Sega’s strategy of expanding classic gaming properties into multimedia formats, capitalizing on the commercial success of recent Sonic theatrical releases.
