GTA 6’s Stephen Root Is The Franchise’s Second-Ever Emmy Winning Actor

Stephen Root has become the second Emmy-winning actor to voice a character in Grand Theft Auto after confirming his role in GTA 6. On September 13, Root revealed that he voices Brian Heder, a drug-runner character in the upcoming game. The following day, on September 14, Root won his first-ever Emmy Award for his performance in the television series Widow’s Bay.

This achievement places Root in rare company within the GTA franchise. The first Emmy-winning actor to appear in a GTA game was James Woods, who voiced Mike Toreno in GTA: San Andreas (2004). Woods has an even more impressive Emmy pedigree, having won two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor—for the films Promise (1987) and My Name Is Bill W (1989)—plus a Daytime Emmy Award for voicing Hades in Disney’s animated Hercules series.

While Rockstar Games has not officially announced casting details for GTA 6, Root’s confirmation and Emmy win mark a significant moment for the franchise, which has long attracted acclaimed talent from film and television.
