The Last Of Us Season 3 Is Probably The Final Season, HBO Says Yet Again

HBO has confirmed that The Last of Us season 3 will arrive in 2027 and is expected to be the final season of the television adaptation. During an interview at the Emmys afterparty, HBO and Max Content Chairman and CEO Casey Bloys told Deadline that showrunner Craig Mazin has “planned it as the final season.”

While Bloys stopped short of providing an absolute confirmation, his comments strongly suggest the show will conclude with its third season. This marks the latest indication from HBO that the series is nearing its end—Bloys previously stated in January that Season 3 “certainly seems” to be the last. However, decisions of this magnitude ultimately rest with the show’s creative leadership.

The announcement represents a notable shift from earlier statements by Mazin himself, who previously argued that a fourth season would be essential to properly conclude the story. It appears the showrunner has since revised his vision to bring the narrative to a satisfying conclusion within three seasons instead.

The HBO adaptation of Naughty Dog’s acclaimed game franchise has established itself as one of the platform’s flagship releases. With a defined endpoint now effectively confirmed, the creative team can focus on delivering a conclusive final season that honors the source material and the story audiences have followed.
