Toss a project at your printer: vibe coded tool allows developer to throw stuff at his 3D printer in VR to begin printing
Hank Berger, a software developer at Epic (not the video game company), has created an innovative VR tool that streamlines the 3D printing workflow in an unconventional way. The tool allows users to select 3D models from their virtual environment and physically throw them at their 3D printer using hand gestures in virtual reality. Once the model is thrown, the printer receives the command and begins manufacturing the object. Berger demonstrated the system in a video shared earlier this week, commenting that the experience made him feel “like Tony Stark” from Marvel films. The project represents an experimental, playfully-coded (“vibe coded”) approach to hardware interfacing, transforming what is typically a file-transfer operation into an intuitive, gesture-based interaction. This bridges the gap between virtual design environments and physical 3D printing, offering an entertaining and potentially practical alternative to traditional printing workflows.
