Wolverine Developer Insomniac Promises to ‘Further Refine the Player Experience’ Based on Feedback
Marvel’s Wolverine launched exclusively on PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026, but arrived to a largely negative critical reception. The game currently holds a 77 Metascore, with reviewers expressing concerns about the combat system becoming repetitive. IGN’s review gave it a 6/10, noting that “Marvel’s Wolverine’s slick and satisfying combat wears thin well before its conclusion,” and that despite strong character work, the game fails to be more than “okay.” The poor reception has reportedly ended any hopes for a Game of the Year contention and marked the end of a winning streak for Sony.
In response to the critical blowback, developer Insomniac Games issued statements confirming they are actively working on improvements. James Stevenson, Insomniac’s director of communications and marketing, posted on social media hours before the official release, stating the studio has “been 100% listening over the last few days and the team has been cooking hard today in response to some of the feedback.”
Insomniac emphasized that despite the criticism, the studio remains “incredibly proud” of the game and committed to refinement. The developer pledged to “further refine the player experience” based on player and critical feedback, indicating that post-launch updates are planned to address the main concerns raised during reviews.
