The Blood of Dawnwalker’s controversial time mechanic won’t necessarily be in a sequel, the game director says
The Blood of Dawnwalker features a time mechanic that has proven divisive among players and critics. The system restricts players to 30 days and 30 nights to save their family, with every quest and action consuming time from this limited pool. This design choice has generated significant debate, with some players appreciating the innovation while others find it frustrating or restrictive.
Game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz from developer Rebel Wolves has confirmed in an interview with Eurogamer that the time mechanic won’t necessarily be a core feature in future installments. “We didn’t decide it, to be honest. We will play with it,” Tomaszkiewicz stated, suggesting an open-minded approach to the franchise’s design philosophy.
Rebel Wolves has expressed interest in developing more games in the series, but the studio appears willing to experiment with different mechanics if they prove more successful or better serve future projects. Rather than committing to the time system as a series-defining feature, the developer seems intent on evaluating what works best for each game on a case-by-case basis. The director hinted that the team is considering “crazy ideas” for upcoming titles, signaling a willingness to innovate beyond the current formula.
This stance demonstrates the studio’s focus on player reception and iterative design rather than rigid adherence to established mechanics.
