Here’s What Fallout 76’s Native Current-Gen Upgrade Looks Like On Xbox Series X|S
Bethesda has released a free native current-gen upgrade for Fallout 76 on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, bringing the online multiplayer title to optimized hardware for the first time. Previously, the game ran on current-generation consoles through backwards compatibility, but this new version is built specifically for Xbox’s latest hardware architecture.
The upgrade launches alongside “The Slasher” seasonal content update, introducing a spooky murder mystery event that spans multiple weeks. The event features a dangerous masked murderer and a cultish group of Slasher supporters, giving players a narrative-driven experience to uncover and confront. The update includes new gameplay features, fixes, and enhancements across the Appalachian wasteland.
The current-gen optimization brings performance improvements, graphical enhancements, and quality-of-life fixes that leverage the more powerful hardware of Xbox Series X and Series S. Players can expect improvements in frame rates, loading times, and visual fidelity compared to the backwards-compatible version. For existing Fallout 76 players on Xbox, the upgrade is free with no additional cost required.
