New PS5 Update Is Out Now, And Sony Actually Added Some New Features

Sony has released PS5 system software update version 26.06-14.00.00, which introduces several new features alongside stability improvements. The update enhances the PlayStation console’s user experience with social, visual, and community-focused additions.

For PS5 Pro owners, the update enables Enhanced PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) by default, a feature that sharpens and smooths visuals in supported games. This enhancement works with both games that support the new PSSR version and those compatible with the previous iteration, though users can disable it if preferred.

A notable social feature is the Display Names option for voice chat, allowing players to see who is speaking during group conversations. Users can customize where the speaker indicator appears on their screen, making it easier to follow discussions in multiplayer games.

The update also introduces a new Community Activity widget for the Welcome Hub that displays what’s trending on the PlayStation Network. The widget offers two viewing modes: Trending Now, which highlights currently popular multiplayer games and modes, and Top 10, which shows the most played games in the user’s country. This feature was previously tested in beta, though the official release differs—player counts are no longer displayed in the Top 10 view. Players can add the widget to their Welcome Hub to quickly see what others in the community are playing.
