Spider-Man: Brand New Day Surpasses Star Wars: The Force Awakens to Become North America’s Highest-Grossing Movie of All Time
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become the highest-grossing film in North American domestic box office history, surpassing Star Wars: The Force Awakens after 47 days in theaters. The Tom Holland sequel reached $936.773 million, edging out The Force Awakens’ $936 million, which had held the record for over a decade since its December 2015 release.
The film’s success extends globally as well, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day currently standing at $2.45 billion worldwide, placing it behind only Avatar ($2.9 billion) and Avengers: Endgame ($2.7 billion). Other top performers include Avatar: The Way of Water ($2.3 billion) and Titanic ($2.2 billion). While the domestic achievement is significant, it’s worth noting that when adjusted for inflation, The Force Awakens’ performance from 11 years ago would represent a higher real value. However, the unadjusted milestone represents a major commercial victory for Sony and Marvel/Disney.
