HBO boss continues to suggest The Last of Us Season 3 is the series’ final season
HBO’s chairman and CEO Casey Bloys has confirmed that The Last of Us Season 3 will be the series’ final season, with showrunner Craig Mazin having “planned it as the final season.” The announcement came during an Emmys afterparty interview, marking Bloys’ second public statement on the matter—he made similar comments in February when discussing the adaptation’s conclusion.
The confirmation settles ongoing speculation about the show’s future. Season 3 is scheduled to premiere in 2027. HBO adapted the first game in Season 1 and split The Last of Us Part 2 across Seasons 2 and 3 to reflect the game’s dual protagonist structure.
Bloys’ recent statements contradict earlier remarks from Mazin, who previously suggested there was “no way” to wrap up The Last of Us story in three seasons. Mazin had also mentioned considering “Season 3 and Season 4” when discussing the adaptation’s scope, leading fans to speculate about additional seasons. The latest guidance from HBO leadership definitively indicates the narrative will conclude with Season 3.
