Total War: Shogun 2’s Complete Edition adds 50 minor factions in return for breaking your mods, but fear not, players who stick to the old version will get legacy DLC for free
Creative Assembly has announced Total War: Shogun 2 Complete Edition, a remastered version of the acclaimed 2011 strategy game set to launch on October 13th across Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store, and GOG.
The Complete Edition features a 64-bit engine and introduces 50+ additional minor factions, significantly expanding strategic variety and faction diversity. The release bundles both the Rise of the Samurai and Fall of the Samurai expansion packs into a comprehensive package.
However, the technical upgrade will break existing mods—a common challenge in major game updates. To address community concerns, Creative Assembly is offering legacy support: players who remain on the original version will receive DLC content at no cost as compensation.
This approach balances modernization with respect for the existing player base. The release strategy acknowledges the investment players have made through years of modding while signaling confidence in the improvements warranted by a fresh start. The Complete Edition represents an attempt to revitalize interest in the nearly 15-year-old strategy game.
