WoW: Forever Is More Than Classic+, It’s WoW 2

Blizzard announced “World of Warcraft: Forever” at BlizzCon 2026, revealing an ambitious new direction that goes far beyond what fans expected. Rather than the incremental “Classic+” players anticipated, the title represents a wholesale reimagining of vanilla World of Warcraft—effectively a new iteration of the legendary MMORPG while maintaining the original level 60 level cap and Azeroth setting.

The game enters a one-month beta beginning September 17, 2026, before its full launch in November. WoW: Forever features substantial new content including updated talent trees, fresh quests, new dungeons and raids, and new class abilities. The design philosophy emphasizes “horizontal” improvements rather than vertical power progression, keeping the core vanilla experience intact while expanding what players can do within it.

The beta is accessible to those who preorder the Skyborne Epic Pack, and new sky elves appear to be the primary new playable race addition. However, Blizzard confirmed that WoW: Forever will not initially include some of the experimental class designs explored in Season of Discovery—such as shaman tanks and healing mages—though developers remained open to the possibility of future additions.

The announcement marks a significant shift from the “no changes” philosophy that originally defined WoW Classic when it launched in 2019. The community has evolved from preserving the original game exactly to embracing substantial new content while preserving the vanilla framework, creating a unique middle ground between a faithful recreation and a full sequel.
