Microsoft doesn’t dismiss rumours a major Xbox Game Pass shake-up is on the way, which reportedly removes day-one game offerings entirely

Microsoft is reportedly planning a significant restructuring of Xbox Game Pass in early 2027 that would remove one of the service’s cornerstone features: day-one releases for new games. According to a leak from ResetEra user Slayven, who previously predicted accurate Game Pass changes in 2025, the redesigned service would drop new games on their launch day across certain tiers while slightly reducing overall subscription prices.

The proposed changes would introduce an ad-supported tier priced at $12.99 per month alongside a premium ad-free option at $19.99 per month. The removal of day-one releases appears designed to improve Microsoft’s margins while making the base subscription more attractive to price-conscious consumers. Cloud gaming features are also mentioned as part of the overhaul.

In response to the widespread rumors, Xbox stated through a spokesperson that it has “nothing to announce today” and that no plans have been finalized, emphasizing that Microsoft regularly experiments with different Game Pass offerings across various markets.

This reported restructuring comes as Game Pass faces ongoing scrutiny over sustainability. Microsoft previously removed Call of Duty from the service earlier this year and has already implemented limits on cloud gaming usage. The service also weathered a controversial price increase in 2025 before being partially rolled back by current Xbox CEO Asha Sharma.
