The Blood of Dawnwalker sequel may not have the divisive time mechanic that so many players dislike: ‘We will not force it,’ game director says

The Blood of Dawnwalker, a new RPG from Rebel Wolves (founded by former Witcher 3 developers), features a unique time management mechanic that has proven divisive among players. Protagonist Coen has 30 in-game days to save his family from vampire lord Brencis, with time advancing only when players complete specific actions like quests or skill upgrades. This creates pressure and restricts opportunities for exploration and optional activities.

While some players appreciate the tension this creates, others dislike the restriction and want freedom to engage in side content at their own pace. Game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz acknowledged the mechanic’s divisive reception and announced that the sequel may not include it. “We will not force it,” Tomaszkiewicz stated, indicating the developer is taking player feedback into account.

The director explained that any return of the time mechanic in future entries would depend on whether it fits the story being told. Players who dislike the feature currently have the option to use mods to adjust gameplay. This approach reflects Rebel Wolves’ willingness to adapt based on community response while preserving the possibility of retaining the mechanic if it serves the narrative in upcoming titles.
