Monster Hunter Wilds upcoming expansion, Ascendance, reveals an infamous returning monster - and it looks like it’ll address the difficulty complaints
Capcom revealed the Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance expansion at Tokyo Game Show, confirming the return of Teostra, an Elder Dragon boss originally introduced in Monster Hunter 2 (2006). The notorious monster is known for its devastating blast effects and fierce flame breath attacks, which famously stressed PlayStation 2 hardware at the time of its original release.
The Ascendance expansion introduces new gameplay features and environments, including the Boost Driver combat mechanic and the Skybound Eyrie hunting location. Two confirmed monsters are featured in the expansion: the returning Elder Dragon Teostra and Araketa. The expansion’s marketing suggests the developers may be addressing difficulty-related community feedback, potentially refining how demanding encounters balance with overall gameplay accessibility.
This announcement marks a significant reveal for Monster Hunter Wilds’ post-launch content strategy. While enthusiasm has built around the expansion, Capcom has not yet announced an official release date.
