Monster Hunter Wilds ditches one of its most hated features
Capcom is removing one of Monster Hunter Wilds’ most controversial monetization features. Starting with the Ascendance expansion, players will no longer need to purchase Character Edit Vouchers to modify their hunter and Palico’s appearance—edits will be free and unlimited.
Previously, cosmetic character changes required paid vouchers. Capcom sold three-packs of Character Edit Vouchers and Palico Edit Vouchers separately for $6.99 each, or a combined bundle for $9.99. This paywall for basic cosmetic customization had become a focal point of criticism from the community and represented part of Capcom’s broader pattern of aggressive monetization strategies in its major franchises.
The reversal reflects growing pushback against cosmetic gatekeeping in live-service games. By removing this barrier, Capcom is acknowledging that cosmetic appearance customization is a quality-of-life feature players expect to be freely accessible. The change demonstrates the publisher’s willingness to revisit controversial monetization decisions based on player feedback, particularly for features that don’t affect gameplay balance or competitive advantage.
