Hideo Kojima confirms Bill Skarsgård is Physint’s lead actor, gives production update on mysterious horror game OD

Hideo Kojima has announced that Bill Skarsgård (It, Nosferatu) will play the lead role in Physint, his upcoming action-espionage game, during Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show 2026 presentation. The casting marks Skarsgård’s first video game role, joining previously announced cast members Charlee Fraser, Don Lee, and Minami Hamabe. Character design is being handled by legendary designer Yoji Shinkawa.

Kojima described Physint as “the culmination of more than 40 years of my career” and stated the game will “redefine ‘action-espionage,’ unbound by any existing genres in digital entertainment.” The game aims to blur the line between games and movies, bringing together talent from both industries. A new poster was unveiled featuring the tagline “The Next Cold War Begins.”

The announcement comes just one week after Physint switched from PlayStation to Xbox following Sony’s decision to step away from the project. According to reports, Sony’s withdrawal was driven by concerns over budget, potential profitability, and exclusivity. Kojima indicated that the game is making “steady progress” under its new publisher partnership with Xbox, and explained that he and Skarsgård are mutual admirers of each other’s work. The title of the game remains largely provisional, with story and gameplay details still under wraps.
