Very Large Man Could Join Helldivers Movie After A Different Very Large (Aqua)Man Dropped Out

Alan Ritchson, star of Prime Video’s Reacher series, is in talks to lead Sony’s upcoming Helldivers movie, replacing Jason Momoa who exited the project in June over creative differences. Ritchson would play one of the elite Helldivers in the film adaptation of Arrowhead Game Studios’ popular dystopian multiplayer shooter. Director Justin Lin, known for his work on the Fast & Furious and Star Trek franchises, remains attached to the project.

The film is scheduled to release on November 10, 2027. Ritchson has established himself as a prominent action-film lead in recent years, with roles spanning streaming series and major theatrical releases including The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Beyond this project, he has expressed interest in adapting video game franchises, citing himself as a fan of Activision’s Call of Duty.

Momoa’s departure in June represented a notable setback for the adaptation, which was initially announced in February with the Aquaman actor set to headline. If negotiations are finalized, Ritchson’s casting would provide renewed momentum for the project as Sony works to maintain its production timeline toward the 2027 theatrical release.
