Dredge maker Black Salt Games establishes indie studio Team Trifold under new Saltworks Entertainment label
Black Salt Games, the developer behind the critically acclaimed indie title Dredge, has announced the establishment of a new studio called Team Trifold, alongside launching Saltworks Entertainment, a white-label publisher providing shared services to multiple independent developers. Saltworks will support Black Salt Games, Team Trifold, and fellow New Zealand-based indie studio Disc 2 Games, all of which are located in Christchurch.
The newly formed label aims to provide comprehensive support across production, marketing, quality assurance, localisation, audio, business operations, and publishing services to enhance the capabilities of its partner studios while maintaining their creative independence. Black Salt Games is funding the development of Team Trifold’s debut title, Nothing Lost, described as a roguelike game designed to “turn the roguelike loop on its head.”
This strategic move reflects a growing trend among independent developers to pool resources and expertise while preserving studio autonomy. By consolidating shared services under Saltworks Entertainment, the studios can focus on their core creative work while benefiting from professional-grade support infrastructure typically available to larger publishers.
