Far Cry TV Series Adds Batman, Knuckles McGinty, And More Big Names
FX and Ubisoft’s upcoming Far Cry television series has announced a substantial cast for its first season. The anthology series, co-created by showrunner Noah Hawley, will feature an ensemble cast including Steve Buscemi, Lizzy Caplan, Brendan Gleeson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Hamish Linklater, Jamie Demetriou, and Sam Spruell, alongside Rob Mac.
The announcement reflects the recent surge in video game adaptations for television and film. Following the critical and commercial success of HBO’s The Last of Us, the industry has seen increased investment in gaming IP conversions. The Far Cry adaptation arrives as other projects like Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil movie also gain positive reception from critics and audiences.
The cast selections showcase accomplished actors from both prestige and genre television. Gleeson is known for The Banshees of Inisherin and In Bruges, while Leigh earned acclaim for The Hateful Eight and Fargo. Hamish Linklater recently appeared in Emmy-nominated Widow’s Bay, Jamie Demetriou is recognized from Only Murders in the Building, and Sam Spruell was featured in Game of Thrones: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Linklater also voices a character in Batman: Caped Crusader.
The Far Cry franchise, spanning multiple games across various settings and protagonists, appears well-suited to an anthology format. With such a recognizable cast and established showrunner in Hawley, the series represents a significant investment by FX and Ubisoft in adapting the popular gaming IP for mainstream television audiences.
