Original Plans For Fight Night Reboot Have Been Cancelled
Electronic Arts has cancelled its original plans for a Fight Night reboot, according to sources with knowledge of the decision who spoke to Insider Gaming Weekly. The decision to abandon the project came approximately one year ago, around the same time that development work on the boxing franchise had already been paused.
The Fight Night series, dormant since 2011, had been the subject of discussion and exploration at EA for years as the publisher considered options for reviving the franchise. Development advanced to the pre-production stage, with plans at one point envisioning a potential Fight Night comeback following the launch of EA Sports UFC 6.
However, those original development plans have now been officially cancelled. While this closes the door on the previously envisioned direction for the franchise, EA has not ruled out a future return for Fight Night under different circumstances. Any potential revival would likely take a substantially different creative direction from what was originally in development.
The franchise’s status remains uncertain, leaving the future of the Fight Night property in limbo as EA reassesses its boxing game strategy.
