Project Zeta turns the MOBA genre on its head to be a more accessible and less toxic experience

At Gamescom 2026, Krafton revealed Project Zeta, an ambitious new title aimed at reimagining the MOBA genre for a wider audience. Developed by NIRVANANA, a team of industry veterans, Project Zeta seeks to address two of the genre’s most persistent problems: the steep learning curve that keeps new players away, and the toxic community culture that has plagued competitive MOBAs for years.

Traditional MOBAs have created significant barriers to entry, combining complex mechanics with notoriously hostile team environments where blame-shifting and finger-pointing discourage casual players. Project Zeta’s design philosophy explicitly rejects this status quo, promising to retain the core appeal of competitive team-based gameplay while making the experience more welcoming and less dependent on aggression or toxicity.

The game introduces structural innovations to achieve this goal. Most notably, Project Zeta features four teams instead of the traditional two-team format and eliminates the conventional laning system entirely. This fundamental redesign is intended to create more dynamic gameplay and reduce the rigid role specialization that typically frustrates newer players who struggle with positioning and traditional MOBA mechanics.

While details remain limited from the Gamescom preview, Project Zeta represents a significant bet by Krafton on whether a redesigned MOBA can successfully capture the growing audience of players interested in competitive team gameplay without the accessibility barriers and social toxicity that have limited the genre’s appeal.
