Bolstered by Switch 2 sales and Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake’s reveal, Nintendo of America COO promises: “This is just the beginning”

Nintendo’s Switch 2 continues to exceed expectations, having become the fastest-selling video game hardware device in US history. The console reached nearly 20 million units sold in its first year, making it the second-fastest-selling console overall in US history. This success persists despite a hardware price increase, driven largely by strong first-party titles like Pokopia and other exclusive games.

Nintendo of America’s President and COO Devon Pritchard has emphasized that the company is still in the early stages of the Switch 2’s lifecycle. In recent comments to Variety, Pritchard stated, “We’re at the beginning of Nintendo Switch 2,” signaling confidence in the platform’s long-term potential. He highlighted the strong support from both internal Nintendo developers and third-party partners contributing to the console’s momentum.

Looking forward, Nintendo is planning a multiyear strategy that extends beyond traditional video games. The company is actively exploring ways to expand its intellectual properties into broader entertainment mediums. Pritchard referenced partnerships with external companies, including Sony and Sony Pictures, to bring Nintendo experiences to new audiences and formats. These expansion efforts suggest Nintendo is viewing Switch 2 not merely as a gaming device but as a foundation for a larger entertainment ecosystem.
