THE FINALS, the multiplayer shooter from Embark Studios, is beginning a new chapter on October 20 as it approaches its third anniversary. Rather than following its traditional seasonal update cadence of three-month cycles, the studio has committed to a longer development runway focused on deepening and improving the game’s existing systems.
According to executive producer Christian Aarsrud, this extended timeline allows the team to tackle work that cannot fit within typical three-month development cycles. This approach enables Embark Studios to invest more deeply in both existing game systems and larger, more complex features that require additional development time.
While new content will continue to arrive with each season, the bulk of the team’s efforts will be directed toward enhancing and refining what already exists in the game, rather than pursuing rapid content expansion. This represents a shift in development philosophy that prioritizes quality improvements and system depth over quantity of new features.
