How Turok: Origins Hopes to Appeal to a New Generation 30 Years After the Original N64 Game
Saber Interactive is developing Turok: Origins, a new entry in the dinosaur-hunting first-person shooter franchise that last saw a major release on the Nintendo 64 nearly 30 years ago. The game aims to attract both longtime fans of the classic shooter and a new generation of gamers who may be unfamiliar with the series.
To bridge the generational gap, developer Saber has prioritized co-operative multiplayer gameplay, according to Tim Willits, the studio’s development chief. Speaking at gamescom 2026, Willits emphasized that cooperative play is particularly important for younger gamers and has become a key pillar of Turok: Origins’ design.
The studio is carefully balancing nostalgia-driven elements for longtime fans—including returning weapons like the iconic Cerebral Bore—with features designed to make the franchise accessible to newer audiences. This approach reflects a broader strategy to establish Turok as relevant to modern gaming audiences while honoring the series’ legacy as a groundbreaking dinosaur-themed shooter of its era.
