Crunchyroll’s Detective Series With a 93% RT Score Is About to Have Its ‘Biggest Year Yet’
The Apothecary Diaries, a critically acclaimed detective anime series with a 93% Rotten Tomatoes score, is entering its most ambitious phase yet. Since premiering in 2023 on Crunchyroll, the series has become one of the platform’s flagship titles, captivating audiences with intricate palace conspiracies and the compelling dynamic between protagonist Maomao, a brilliant apothecary, and Jinshi, a mysterious imperial official.
Season 2 deepened the mystery by revealing more about Jinshi’s true identity while uncovering a sprawling conspiracy threatening the imperial family itself. Season 3, launching October 3, employs an expanded release strategy reflecting the show’s growing popularity. The season’s first cour comprises 12 episodes airing weekly, followed by an original theatrical film premiering in December, with the second cour resuming in April 2027.
According to production committee producer Takao Iwata, this release window marks the series’ “biggest year yet,” signaling significant narrative developments and character revelations ahead for the interconnected story that has driven the show’s critical and audience appeal.
