Iconic RPG Lufia is finally coming to PC, with the first two games in the series due next year
The classic RPG series Lufia is making its official debut on PC. Square Enix and developer Sting have announced that “Lufia 1 & 2 The Sinistrals Saga” will be released on Steam in 2027, marking the first time any games in the franchise will be officially available on personal computers. The announcement was made at the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct.
The original Lufia & the Fortress of Doom launched in 1993 for the Super Famicom in Japan and later arrived in North America, though it never received an official European release. The game is known for its distinctive opening that immediately thrusts players into an epic battle against four powerful godlike entities known as the Sinistrals, setting the tone for the franchise’s narrative.
This release represents a significant moment for game preservation and accessibility, as the Lufia series has been primarily confined to Super Famicom hardware for decades. By bringing the first two games to PC via Steam, the titles will reach a much broader modern audience. The bundled release of both games suggests Square Enix and Sting are committed to introducing contemporary players to the full scope of the early entries in the franchise.
The 2027 release date gives the developers time to ensure proper ports of these classic RPGs, potentially including quality-of-life improvements and enhanced features for modern systems while maintaining the authenticity of the original experiences.
