Tokyo Walled City looks set to fill the Deus Ex-shaped hole in my life
An upcoming immersive sim titled Tokyo Walled City has been unveiled at Tokyo Game Show 2026, offering fresh hope for fans of the dormant Deus Ex franchise. With more than a decade passing since the last entry in the series and no new installment on the horizon, this indie title appears well-positioned to capture the attention of stealth-gameplay enthusiasts. Developed by indie studio Grim Ronin, Tokyo Walled City is described as a “stealth action retro-cyberpunk immersive sim with survival horror and RPG elements”—essentially Deus Ex enhanced with horror components.
The game casts players as Reiko Kimura, a mercenary who finds herself trapped within a dense, fortified district of Tokyo. The setting draws explicit inspiration from the historical Kowloon Walled City, the iconic enclave that has long captured internet fascination. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided concluded with an unresolved cliffhanger, and the series’ dormancy has left a notable void in the immersive sim genre. Tokyo Walled City aims to fill that gap, delivering the moody cyberpunk atmosphere and intricate stealth mechanics that defined the franchise, while adding survival horror elements to differentiate itself.
