Blizzard developer says World of Warcraft: Forever’s beta numbers are the “craziest” he’s seen in 17 years
World of Warcraft: Forever, Blizzard’s upcoming vanilla World of Warcraft spin-off built by the WoW Classic team, has attracted significantly more players than anticipated during its beta phase. Scheduled to launch on November 4th, the game’s beta experienced server disconnects and heavy lag due to the unexpected surge in player numbers.
Josh Greenfield, a WoW Classic developer, expressed enthusiasm about the response on social media, describing the beta player numbers as “the craziest” he has witnessed during his 17 years at Blizzard and nearly eight years on the Classic team. Despite the technical challenges caused by the server load, Blizzard views the overwhelming interest as a positive sign, with Greenfield stating that “we’ve got something really special here.” The strong beta response suggests confidence within the development team regarding the project’s viability and player appeal ahead of its full release.
