007 First Light Dev Says It Had “No Choice” But To Delay The Game’s Switch 2 Edition Again
IO Interactive announced another delay for the Switch 2 version of 007 First Light, pushing the release from Summer 2026 to March 2027. This marks the third postponement for the handheld edition, with the game originally scheduled for May 2026 alongside other platform releases.
In an interview with Inven Global, technical producer Cristina Vega explained the decision, acknowledging it is “disappointing news for fans,” but emphasized it was made “for their benefit.” She cited multiple factors for the delay, including the need for the development team to take a “brief breather” after sustained intensive work. Additionally, Vega mentioned that “requests from marketing and various other factors” influenced the timing of the announcement.
The studio stressed that the extended development window is intended to ensure players can experience 007 First Light “as fully as possible” on the Switch 2, with some compromises deemed “inevitable” when adapting a complex title to new hardware. IO Interactive indicated the game is “definitely getting close to the final phase” of development, suggesting meaningful progress despite the repeated delays.
The multiple postponements underscore the technical challenges developers face when bringing ambitious games to Nintendo’s newest console, requiring careful optimization to maintain quality across different platforms and hardware specifications.
