The Blood of Dawnwalker cost less than expected to make - it’s more of a double-A game than a triple-A blockbuster
Polish developer Rebel Wolves has revealed that The Blood of Dawnwalker, a dark fantasy vampire role-playing game, has a development budget of $40 million. Studio co-founder and game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz disclosed the figure in an interview with Bloomberg, positioning the project as a double-A production rather than a traditional triple-A blockbuster.
The $40 million budget is substantially lower than comparable industry standards. For context, the James Bond title 007: First Light reportedly cost $200 million to develop, though that figure included significant licensing fees and high-profile actor wages. This more modest budget suggests Rebel Wolves is pursuing a focused scope and efficient resource allocation for The Blood of Dawnwalker, potentially allowing the studio to deliver a substantial gaming experience without the budgetary requirements typical of major AAA releases.
The double-A positioning reflects a strategic middle ground in the industry, where studios balance production quality and ambition with more contained development costs. This approach has become increasingly common as larger budget games face greater financial risk and scrutiny.
