Indie Game Developer Accuses Studio of Using AI to Rip Off His Viral Potato Peeling Game
Independent game developer Rado Klasa has accused Golden Horn Studios of intellectual theft, claiming the studio used artificial intelligence to create a copy of his viral indie game 1,000,000 Potatoes. Both games feature similar premises centered on physics-based potato peeling set in Soviet-style military environments with horror-adjacent aesthetics.
Klasa originally posted about 1,000,000 Potatoes in July. On September 20, game consultant Indie Game Joe shared a trailer for Potato Please, developed by Golden Horn Studios. After discovering the new title, Klasa publicly criticized the striking similarities between the games, characterizing the situation as blatant intellectual theft and alleging AI was used in its creation.
The accusation has generated attention in the gaming community, raising broader questions about intellectual property protection for indie developers and concerns regarding AI’s role in game development. The incident illustrates emerging tensions over whether AI tools are being used to rapidly generate derivative works without authorization or proper attribution.
