Mystique’s lesbian relationship in Marvel’s Wolverine is seemingly censored in certain parts of the world

Players of Marvel’s Wolverine have reported that LGBTQ content appears to be censored in certain regions of the world. Specifically, content depicting the lesbian relationship and marriage between non-playable characters Mystique and Tyger has been altered or removed in some versions of the game.

According to reports shared on X and Reddit and spotted by Kotaku, the censorship includes a blurred wedding photo of the two characters that becomes blank when picked up, letters between the couple that are entirely obscured, and voice lines in which the characters refer to each other as their wife or express their love for one another.

The game is developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. While the exact regions affected remain unclear from the available reports, users have noted significant differences in how the relationship is referenced compared to uncensored versions of the game.

This represents another instance of content moderation varying by region, a practice some publishers employ to comply with local regulations or market preferences in different countries. The censorship of LGBTQ representation has been a recurring point of contention in the video game industry, with players and advocacy groups frequently criticizing such regional content restrictions.
