Fly between radio outposts inside a murky megastructure in The Hollowing, a follow-up to the brilliant spelunking sim Lorn’s Lure

The Hollowing is an upcoming megastructure exploration game developed by Rubeki, serving as a spiritual successor to 2024’s acclaimed spelunking simulator Lorn’s Lure. Set within the same narrative universe, the game takes a dramatically different approach to traversal by replacing climbing mechanics with aircraft-based exploration.

Rather than scaling the massive structure on foot with climbing axes, players will pilot an unconventional aircraft between scattered radio outposts throughout the megastructure. The aircraft features a distinctive aesthetic reminiscent of barbed wire and horseshoes, and requires fuel management as players navigate the environment.

The shift to aviation-based gameplay appears to address friction points from Lorn’s Lure, which challenged players with frequent environmental hazards and falls that would force repeated resets. By providing an aircraft as the primary traversal method, developer Rubeki seems to have responded to player feedback about the original game’s difficulty curve, offering a more forgiving exploration experience while preserving the core appeal of discovering and navigating a vast artificial structure.

Both games share a focus on mystery and environmental exploration within an imposing megastructure setting. The Hollowing promises to deliver a fresh take on this theme for players who appreciated Lorn’s Lure’s world design but found its demanding climbing mechanics prohibitive.
