Marvel’s Wolverine “fart gas” scent trails addressed by a surprise update

Marvel’s Wolverine has received a hotfix update that addresses one of the game’s most polarizing features: the visual scent trail system. The update, version 01.001.005, reduces the opacity and prominence of the bright blue “gassy” lines that represent Wolverine’s scent-tracking ability—a core mechanic used to locate mission objectives and collectibles throughout the game world.

Rather than removing the feature entirely, developer Insomniac Games opted to tone down both the visual scent trails and associated audio sense indicators in response to player feedback. The effects had drawn criticism for being visually distracting during gameplay. In the official patch announcement, Insomniac stated it “continues to evaluate ways to further improve senses” and is actively exploring the addition of a complete toggle option that would allow players to disable the mechanic entirely.

The adjustment represents a measured approach to addressing accessibility and immersion concerns while preserving the scent-tracking mechanic as a fundamental part of Wolverine’s gameplay identity. The developer’s commitment to further refinements suggests additional changes to the sense systems may be forthcoming as more player feedback is collected post-launch.
