AMD’s market cap just blasted through the $1 trillion barrier

AMD achieved a major milestone on Monday by reaching a $1 trillion market capitalization, marking significant recognition of the company’s growing influence in the AI and data center sectors. The achievement comes as AMD shares surged 10% on the day and have appreciated 25% over the past five trading days, continuing a remarkable year where shares are up 180% overall.

The strong market performance reflects AMD’s increasingly dominant position in AI chip manufacturing and data center solutions. In the second quarter, the company reported total revenue of $11.54 billion, representing a 50% year-over-year increase from $7.69 billion in the same quarter the previous year. More significantly, AMD’s Data Center segment—which includes AI accelerators and processors—generated $6.7 billion in sales, nearly doubling from the prior year with a 107% year-over-year increase.

Despite reaching the $1 trillion milestone, AMD remains substantially smaller than rival Nvidia, which has a market valuation roughly five times larger. Nvidia’s dominance in the AI chip market has made it one of the world’s most valuable companies, but AMD’s surge indicates the semiconductor sector is expanding rapidly enough to support multiple major players.
