Bungie says it’s “not done with Destiny”, aims to earn back player trust by restoring archived Destiny 2 content

Bungie has announced a reversal of its decision to end Destiny 2 development, pledging to reinstate vaulted campaigns, raids, and destinations in an effort to regain player trust. The announcement comes just three months after the studio announced end-of-life support for the game, a decision that led to layoffs affecting 292 employees.

Studio head Poria Torkan and product head Josh Deane stated in a blog post that Destiny is “foundational to Bungie’s future” and that the studio has “more stories to tell [and] new worlds to build.” The reversal also addresses Marathon, Bungie’s other major title, which they acknowledged “did not reach as many players as we had hoped” and was “never intended to replace Destiny.”

The community reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, with players and content creators hailing the decision as unprecedented. Content creator SneakyBeaver expressed the sentiment widely held within the community, noting that “This does not happen. This NEVER happens. Games and studios do not just simply come back from the dead.” The reversal appears to be a direct result of sustained player advocacy, with fans repeatedly calling for Destiny’s continuation during major gaming events and announcements.

Bungie has acknowledged the impact of its earlier decisions, with leadership stating “The consequences have been real” and emphasizing that “Your voices mattered.” The studio’s move to restore vaulted content and renew its commitment to the franchise represents a significant shift in strategy and a recognition of the player community’s influence on the studio’s direction.
