‘You’re Going to Take a Hit’: Rainbow Six Siege Director Bracing for GTA 6 Launch Impact, Promises Players Who Stick Around Will Be Served ‘Like Kings and Queens’

Ubisoft is preparing Rainbow Six Siege for the significant player exodus expected when Grand Theft Auto 6 launches this November. The game’s director has acknowledged the industry-wide impact GTA 6 will have, noting that players “are going to take a hit” during the release window.

Across the industry, major publishers are strategically repositioning their release schedules to avoid direct competition with GTA 6. Most have crowded their launches into September and early October, effectively clearing November for Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated release. The only notable exceptions are Nintendo, releasing The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, and established live-service titles that must continue operating regardless.

For live-service games like Rainbow Six Siege that cannot pause operations during GTA 6’s peak interest, the challenge is retention rather than release timing. Ubisoft is implementing a reward-focused strategy to incentivize loyalty, with the Rainbow Six Siege director promising that players who stick around will be treated “like kings and queens.” The publisher plans to double down on rewards and special treatment to maintain engagement during this competitive period.

This approach reflects the broader industry reality that while some games can delay launches to avoid GTA 6’s gravitational pull on the gaming audience, live-service titles must adapt their engagement strategies to retain players through the expected surge of interest in Rockstar’s release.
