Spider-Man: Brand New Day Director Teams Up With Sony for New Movies
Sony Pictures has signed director Destin Daniel Cretton to a three-year overall development deal following the massive success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The film has become the highest-grossing domestic release of all time and the third highest-grossing worldwide, demonstrating the studio’s confidence in Cretton’s ability to deliver blockbuster projects.
Under this deal, Cretton will develop films through his production company Hisako, which he runs with Jeyun Munford. The arrangement gives Sony first-look at projects developed by Cretton and his team. Sony Pictures’ motion picture group CEO and chairman Tom Rothman praised the partnership, stating Cretton is “the real deal” and expressing enthusiasm about the ongoing business relationship.
The deal represents Sony’s strategic investment in retaining top directorial talent after a successful franchise collaboration. While specific projects have not been announced, the broader partnership suggests potential opportunities for additional Spider-Man films or other cinematic ventures. This type of overall deal is common in the film industry as studios lock in proven creative talent to multiple future projects.
